As a member of Dickinson, Mackaman,Tyler & Hagen, P.C., Marc Ward is co-chair of the firm's Business/Corporate Law Section.
His time is spent representing clients in the organization and structuring of their businesses with an emphasis on LLCs. A significant portion of his practice is devoted to representing the buyers and sellers of businesses.
Marc is the current chair of the Iowa Bar Association’s LLC Committee and oversaw the drafting of the new Iowa Uniform Limited Liability Company Act. At the national level, Marc was an official Observer to the Revised Uniform Limited Liability Company Act Drafting Committee of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. He also serves on a number of American Bar Association Committees including the Model Limited Liability Company Task Force, the Partnerships and Unincorporated Business Organizations Committee, the Legal Opinion Committee and the Banking Law Committee.
Marc is the author of the two-volume treatise, Guide to Limited Liability Companies, published by CCH, Inc. (1995) and “A Guide to the Iowa Limited Liability Company Act,” 42 Drake Law Review 385 (1993). For other legal essays by Marc, go to the Firm’s website at www.dickinsonlaw.com.
In 1996, he taught Business Planning as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Drake Law School.
Marc received his law degree in 1984 from Drake University Law School, graduating with honors. He is a 1980 graduate of Iowa State University with majors in accounting and economics. He has been with the firm since 1984.
He was recently selected by the Governor of Iowa to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Iowa Student Loan Liquidity Corporation, a private non-profit corporation with over $3 billion on its books.
Marc is also Vice Chair of the Governor of Iowa's Commission on the Status of Women. He was a member of the Des Moines School Board for nine years, serving two terms as president.
